Get the Facts.

Formed in 2018, Big Sky Care Connect is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to respond to the need for a statewide coordinated health information exchange (HIE). As Montana’s HIE, Big Sky Care Connect facilitates the secure, timely flow of clinical information between healthcare providers and entities. Through partnering with communities and enabling data exchange, BSCC leads initiatives that aim to improve health outcomes, cost efficiency, and quality of care for all Montanans.

Among its many benefits, timely sharing of vital health data promotes more informed decision making at the point of care, improves coordination across multidisciplinary teams, reduces duplicative testing, and minimizes adverse patient events.

  • HIEs are modern solutions that allow healthcare organizations (such as hospitals, clinics, FQHCs, pharmacies, etc.) to securely share health data across disparate Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. The goal is to ensure that healthcare providers can access up-to-date and complete health information at the point of care. HIEs can reduce duplication of medical tests, lower the risk of errors, and improve care coordination.

As trusted data conveners, HIEs also provide data delivery services that support population health, quality improvement, operational excellence, and overall community health. 49 states in the US have at least one local, regional, or state designated HIE.

  • Big Sky Care Connect provides Montana with the technical infrastructure to combine, enhance, and exchange electronic health data across the state’s healthcare ecosystem.
